Controlled Substance & Alcohol Policy

North Shore Community College, in accordance with the "Drug Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989" and the "Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988," as well as Massachusetts General Laws, has implemented programs designed to prevent the use of illegal drugs and the abuse of alcohol by students and employees.

The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession or the use of alcohol or a controlled substance is prohibited on the campuses of North Shore Community College, or as a part of any College related activity. Students or employees who violate these restrictions shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action up to and including dismissal and criminal prosecution. Students should consult the booklet "Student Rights and Responsibilities" for a full statement of disciplinary and due process procedures. Faculty and Staff should refer to the "Human Resource and Affirmative Action Policies and Procedures Handbook" for the Drug Free Workplace policy.

The College will present campus-wide drug and alcohol education programs on an annual basis. The College stands ready to assist any student or employee who is experiencing a substance abuse problem. This assistance is coordinated through the Counseling Center and Health Services for students, and through the College's Employee Assistance Program for faculty and staff.
