November 11
On Veterans Day, North Shore Community College salutes all those who have served and sacrificed for America's freedom.
We’d like to share the inspiring story of one of our student Veterans who, while transitioning from the military to civilian life, has overcome challenges, embraced growth, and achieved success.
Derek Brennan is a U.S. Army Veteran who served an 18-month tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His transition to civilian life was difficult as he suffered from PTSD but he got his life back on track and enrolled at NSCC. He became quite involved in NSCC’s Student Veterans Center, eventually becoming president of the Student Veterans Club. Brennan’s time at NSCC culminated with him earning associate degrees in both business and horticulture and being selected to be the Student Speaker at his 2021 Commencement Ceremony. Brennan has continued his connection to NSCC by serving as the Veteran’s Services Assistant in NSCC’s Veterans Center.
NSCC is proud to have been recognized as a Military Friendly® School for more than a decade. This designation is given to the top 20% of colleges and universities that best support veterans and military service members
