Solmaria Deleon has worked hard to attain her dreams. After initially enrolling in 2008, Sol returned to NSCC in 2019 to major in Digital & Social Marketing to purposely change life for herself and her three children. Thanks to the college’s commitment to supporting holistic student success, Sol built a schedule around her busy life that allowed her to realistically stick to her plans. Sol's talents and interests soon led her to explore video content creation. As a Latina, Sol understood that the lack of representation in the television and film industry required her, again, to become a purpose-driven agent of change. After pursuing conversations with dedicated NSCC faculty and staff in support of a video production program, NSCC’s Digital Video Production Certificate program was officially launched in the Fall of 2022. Sol continued to be recognized for her artistic talents and educational achievements. In May 2022, she performed musically at President William Heineman's Inauguration, and was invited to serve as one of four student speakers during NSCC's 56th Commencement at which she delivered her "Love Letter to NSCC" encouraging people to ask for help if they struggle, hold on to hope when it feels hopeless, and to stick to their dreams. The event marked her own graduation as well, and in June of 2022, Solmaria became the first bilingual Content Developer for NSCC.
